Mexico, US Agree to Enhance Cooperation in Energy Sector – Statement

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — Mexico and the United States agreed on Thursday to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector during the visit of US Energy Secretary Rick Perry to Mexico City, according to the administration of Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.

“The energy ministries of Mexico and the United States reached an agreement to work in three strategic areas to strengthen energy security and to contribute to the growth and integration of our energy markets,” the statement said.

Strategic areas include ensuring security of energy systems of both countries, the development of trade, investment and infrastructure in energy sector as well as the development and innovation in energy technologies and all energy resources, including traditional energy resources and green energy, according to the statement.

The sides also agreed to enhance cooperation with regard to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, including through drawing up a relevant intergovernmental agreement, the statement noted.
