Flint Government Had Water Delivered, While Telling Citizens Water Was Safe

Flint, Michigan (DailyHaze) – As if the people of Flint did not have enough reasons to be mad at their government, new information being released should make them furious.

Emails obtained by Progress Michigan show that not only was the Snyder administration aware of the contaminated water, they were also having water delivered to government buildings. They did this so government employees would not be forced into drinking the same contaminated water as their residents.

The email was dated January 7, 2015. Almost one year before the Snyder administration announced their concern over the city’s water. The email was a “faculty notification” sent by the Department of Technology, Management and Budget. It explained to employees that water coolers were being placed next to water fountains so employees could choose whether or not they were drinking the same water as Flint residents for “as long as the public water does not meet treatments requirements.”

“The City of Flint recently sent out the attached notice regarding violations to the drinking water standards. While the City of Flint states that corrective actions are not necessary, DTMB is in the process of providing a water cooler on each occupied floor, positioned near the water fountain, so you can choose which water to drink. The coolers will arrive today and will be provided as long as the public water does not meet treatments requirements.”

An email chain showed that this notification was seen by the Department of Environmental Quality. Not only did the DEQ know of the notifications existence, they knew the measures being taken to attempt to ensure state workers would not have to drink from the city’s water supply.

One of the biggest complaints since the Flint water crisis has been the government’s response time. Now it appears their response time was actually much better than we had originally thought. If you were an employee of the state.
